If you're like me, you've probably searched quite a bit to find ways to make money from home. After losing my job, I found it very difficult to get another one. I quickly learned that I wasn't going to find one in my area that paid me what I was getting paid PLUS all the benefits I had. I just wanted one that would pay me enough to keep food on the table and our lights on!
During my long hours of submitting my resume's to online job banks and browsing company websites to see if they had any job openings, I kept coming across a few stories from Newsweek, USA Today and others about how some people were making money from home. Not just a few bucks, but several of these people were making more money that I used to and all it seemed they did was sit at home and diddle dallying on the Computer! What's wrong with this picture!
Thankfully that was back in 2001. Now days, I make a comfortable living off the Internet. Over these last 8 years, I've tried a lot of online business opportunities and other ways to make money from home. Some worked, some didn't. Some were nothing more than scams while some involved more risk than penny stocks!
So here is the top 5 ways to make money from home that I've used in the past or still use today.
One way I've used to make money at home and still do today is Freelance Writing. I went at this at home business both ways. As a true Freelancer going out there and marketing myself. I have to tell you, it's a damn hard job to visit umpteen numbers of sites and posting sample articles and resumes. I made good money at it but I spent so many hours doing it, it felt like another job.
Then I started using Freelance Writing Jobs sites where people and companies that were looking for content would come and post their jobs and what they were willing to pay. I would log into my account, see what jobs were available and decide whether or not I wanted to take them. Payments are made to my PayPal account quickly and I'm a much happier person!
My first endeavor to make money from home was ebay. Even though I've slacked back on my ebay business, I still make a pretty good junk of change from them. Boy has things changed over the last 8 years! Still, ebay has been very good for me. Gone though are the days of driving around to Garage sales and auctions trying to find a product or two to run back home and sell on ebay. Now days I use dropshippers and wholesalers who will ship my auction products right from their warehouses. This has nearly automated my ebay business. I can't tell you how much more money I make now that I use this system than back in the day when I drove all over the place trying to find bargains on goods.
I tried making money with survey sites as well. I found most promised way more than they produced. Some were downright scams. Luckily, these days it looks like many have gone the way of the Dinosaur. The way I found that many paid survey sites pay out is not usually in lump sums of cash, but rather merchandise and products. Which can be good if you already use those products. You won't get filthy rich with online paid surveys, but there are a lot of people working from home making enough to help ends meet. And that's all some of us need, just a short term money making gig to help us get by until things get better.
I tried the whole affiliate marketing thing. I had some success at it, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. I made several sites and advertised them with Google Adwords to get traffic fast. I spent a lot of money at first because I thought I knew how to do it. I also lost a whole lot of money fast in the beginning. Then I went for a while just trying to get my websites ranked higher so that I could rely on search traffic. Since I'm no SEO guru or anything, I found that to be very difficult as well and went back to promoting affiliate programs with pay per click advertising. I stayed with this for a while but I barely broke even until I broke down and bought some helpfult ebooks on the subject. Even when I started making big sums of money, the work load and the requirement that you must constantly tweak your ad campaigns were way more work than what I wanted. I sold my sites for peanuts and cut and run.
One of the easiest ways I made money online was with a Program called Project Payday. This is another program where you won't get rick quick, but maybe you'll make enough to keep the Wolf away from your door. I found using Project Payday quite easy and often made around $75 to $150 a day. This would take me around 4 to 6 hours on an average day. Some days I made a little more, some a little less but overall, I can say that I was pleased at the results of my efforts.
If you should find yourself in the same boat as I was; broke, out of a job and needing to make extra money, I would suggest any of the techniques above to make some extra money while you worked to get back on your feet.
Luckily, now days I don't have to worry about such things. I have my system in place and work my system. It takes me a few hours a day and I have the rest of the day to do other things...like wash clothes, dishes and kids, run to the store or take kids to the Doctors. What? Did you think I was going to say "Sit by the Pool and Drink Bloody Mary's?" LOL No such luck...yet. Maybe, but if that day never comes at least I'll be happy with the way I currently make money from home. You need to get out and find your niche on the Internet so you too can slow down a little. It's amazing what life's little pleasures you'll see when you do.
